Dakhla climate guide

Dakhla sits between the Sahara and the cold Canary Current, and the result is a desert coastline with almost no temperature extremes. Averages below are computed from Open-Meteo ERA5 reanalysis over 2015–2025.

Climate questions

Where do these Dakhla climate averages come from?+

They are calculated from the ERA5 reanalysis dataset via Open-Meteo, averaged over 2015–2025 for land variables and 2021–2025 for sea surface temperature. They are model-derived averages for the Dakhla peninsula, not station records, so small differences from other sources are normal.

Is Dakhla warm in winter?+

Yes. January and February average highs near 24 °C with lows around 14 °C, which makes Dakhla one of the mildest winter destinations on the Atlantic coast of Africa. Evenings feel cooler because of the wind.

How windy is Dakhla compared to other kitesurf spots?+

Very windy and, more importantly, very consistent. Average daily peak wind sits between 26 and 35 km/h across the year, with the strongest months from March to August. Few destinations combine that consistency with flat water.

Does Dakhla have seasons?+

Only in a mild sense. Temperature varies by roughly 5 °C between the coolest and warmest month. What really changes through the year is the wind strength, the swell size and the sea temperature.
