Dakhla Weather Today

Dakhla has one of the most stable climates in Africa. Average highs range from about 24 °C in winter to 29 °C in September, and lows from 14 °C to 21 °C. It is dry, sunny for 10 to 12 hours a day, and windy on most afternoons — the cold Canary Current offshore prevents the extreme desert heat you find inland.

The north-east trade wind is strongest from April to August, when afternoon wind commonly reaches 20 to 28 knots. March and September are almost as good with fewer crowds. From October to February the wind is lighter but still workable on many days.

Much stronger than the temperature suggests. The UV index regularly reaches 9 to 11 between April and September, and the constant wind masks the feeling of burning. High-factor sunscreen, sunglasses and covering layers are essential year-round.

September is the best all-round month: the warmest water of the year, warm air, strong wind and thinner crowds than midsummer. For kitesurfing alone, May to July is the most reliable window; for surfing, October to March.

Not by Saharan standards. July and August average highs of 26 to 28 °C, and the constant sea breeze keeps it comfortable. Inland excursions such as Imlili are considerably hotter than the coast.
