Landing at Dakhla Airport is simpler than arriving at a large resort airport, but the correct onward plan depends on where you are sleeping. Dakhla city is close to the terminal; most kitesurf camps sit farther north along the lagoon. Treating those as the same journey is the most common arrival mistake. This guide explains the choices without tying them to prices or timetables that can change.
First identify your destination
Check the full accommodation name and ask for a map pin before departure. A booking described as “Dakhla” may be in the city, on the lagoon shore, near PK25, or at a more isolated ocean-side property. The city transfer is short. Lagoon camps commonly require roughly half an hour by road, while remote properties can take longer. A driver needs the property name, not only “the lagoon”.
The easiest option: accommodation pickup
For a first visit, a pre-arranged pickup is normally the cleanest choice. Many camps coordinate transfers around flight arrivals and know how much space is needed for board bags. Send the flight number, arrival time, passenger count and the dimensions of sports luggage at least a day ahead. Confirm whether the transfer is included, shared or private, and where the driver will display your name.
If a flight is delayed, message the accommodation as soon as your phone reconnects. Keep the property’s number offline as well as in an app. Mobile data and airport Wi-Fi should never be the only place where your arrival instructions exist.
Taxi or private driver?
A city taxi works well when you are staying in central Dakhla and travelling with ordinary luggage. Before loading, show the exact destination and agree on the fare. City stay or direct to the lagoon?
Go directly to the lagoon if the trip is primarily about kitesurfing and the camp includes meals, lessons and rescue cover. Spend the first night in town if you arrive very late, want to buy supplies, or plan to explore independently. Moving between town and the lagoon every day costs time, so choose the base that matches the purpose of the trip.
