Sunrise over the lagoon
The eastern side of the peninsula faces the lagoon and catches the first colour. Arrive before dawn for reflections in calmer morning water. Low cloud can sit on the horizon, but it often creates stronger colour before clearing.
Sunset over the Atlantic
The ocean side gives an unobstructed western horizon. Cliffs near the southern end of the peninsula and beaches around Foum Labouir work well, but stay back from unstable edges and breaking waves. In town, waterfront viewpoints offer an easier option.
Desert golden hour
Dunes and sandstone need side light to show texture. Plan desert stops for the first or last hour of daylight rather than midday. The warm sand and blue lagoon create the strongest colour contrast.
Protect your equipment
Fine sand reaches lenses and phone ports quickly. Change lenses inside a vehicle, carry a simple cloth and avoid placing bags directly on damp salt flats. A small tripod is useful at dawn, but hold it firmly when the afternoon wind builds.
